What We Carry With Us is a collection of moments that invite us to connect with the people around us, discovering their stories through keychains. I started this project to understand the people around me better. To feel grateful for what we have, and understand what we might take for granted. May this journey through vulnerability foster not just understanding, but new friendships, unexpected love, and warm smiles exchanged in hallways. Thank you for your open heart. We need more people like you in this world.

The project scope lasted 4 months.

Preliminary construction

A core concept for this book surrounded the idea of transparency. I headed into interviews with pure curiosity. I wanted to know how each person lived, and if I already knew, what else could I learn about them in the process? The vellum overlay outlined where each key came from, what car they drove, and any special memories attached to keychain items. This idea was eventually scrapped due to an accumulation of too much information. This forced me into a new direction. How can I tell this story of human connection, without telling you everything I’ve got? What can the viewer infer for themselves?
